God Still Speaks to the Woman Behind the Mom

Hey there, Mama,

This week, I want to speak directly to the woman behind the mom. The woman who may have spent years pouring into her children…The woman who may have found her joy, identity, and purpose wrapped up in motherhood…The woman whose children are growing, or maybe already grown, and now you’re wondering, “What about me?”

I’ve found myself reflecting on this personally. Motherhood has grown me in ways I never expected. I’ve gone from a sensitive, low-confidence woman to one who is walking in greater confidence, purpose, and vision. Raising my children, two now grown and one a teen, has stretched me, developed me, and prepared me.

Now, I’m able to step into new spaces…
Starting my own business.
Ministering to other women.
Serving in my community.

And here’s what I’ve come to realize:

God never stopped speaking to me.
Even in the seasons when my children needed me most. Motherhood didn’t silence His voice—it sharpened it. It prepared me for what was next. And Mama, He is still speaking to you too.

And Mama, there is power in that.

Devotion: God Still Speaks

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27 (KJV)

Throughout the Bible, we see women who walked through motherhood, loss, disappointment, and uncertainty—and yet, God still spoke to them.

Naomi lost her husband and her sons. She was grieving, bitter, and unsure of her future. Yet through her relationship with Ruth, God restored her hope and gave her purpose again. What she thought was lost, God redeemed.

Hannah was barren in a time when a woman’s value was often tied to motherhood. But she didn’t allow shame or comparison to silence her. She cried out to God with honesty and surrender—and He heard her. Not because of her status, but because of her faith.

Sarah received a promise from God in what felt like an impossible season. She laughed. She doubted. She even tried to take matters into her own hands. But despite her missteps, God still fulfilled His word.

And what do all of these women have in common?

God still spoke.
Before motherhood.
During motherhood.
After heartbreak.
After mistakes.

Their identity was never limited to one role—and neither is yours.

Mama, you are not just a mother.
You are a woman God speaks to, develops, and calls forward.

Take a Moment to Reflect

Take a moment to reflect:

  • Where have I allowed motherhood to define my entire identity?
  • What is God stirring in me in this season?
  • Have I created space to hear His voice outside of my responsibilities?

Pray: Father, thank you for allowing me to be a mother. Forgive me for moments I limit you and my purpose to motherhood alone. Help me to hear and receive what you are saying to me in this season. In Jesus name. Amen.

Reclaiming Identity Beyond Motherhood

For many working moms, life becomes centered entirely around caring for others: children, careers, family, and responsibilities. Over time, it’s easy to lose sight of who you are outside of motherhood. In this blog, I explore how Christian working moms can reclaim their identity, rediscover passions they once enjoyed, and begin nurturing the woman God created them to be beyond their role as “mom.”

Mom Tips: Reconnecting with You

  1. Create space for yourself daily. Even 10 minutes of quiet can help you reconnect with God and yourself.
  2. Explore what brings you joy again. You’re allowed to rediscover what you love.
  3. Say yes to growth. New seasons require new versions of you.
  4. Stay connected to God’s voice. Listen to worship music. Read his word. He is still leading you beyond motherhood.

Faith-Filled Affirmation For the Week

"I am more than the roles I carry. I am a woman God speaks to, leads, and grows. My purpose continues to unfold in every season of my life."

Closing Encouragement

Mama, your story didn’t end when you became a mother.

It expanded.

And as your children grow, you are growing too.

God is still speaking. Still leading. Still calling you forward.

There is more in you. There is more for you. There is still purpose ahead.

So lean in.
Listen closely.
Trust that the same God who carried you through motherhood is guiding you into what’s next.

With love and purpose,
Karen 🤎

Woman's prayer hands on top of a bible.

Hey there, Mama Since coming into a deeper walk with Christ, one of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is the importance of prayer—and how praying God’s Word changes everything. Back in 2017, I graduated from a Bible school through my church called Sonship School of the First Born. One of the skills I learned and sharpened, was the ability to write prayers according to God's word. This is important becuase the only prayers God answers are His own. That doesn’t mean God ignores our hearts....

Hey there, Mama, It’s been a little over two years since my mother-in-law passed away. During that time, our family walked through other hard seasons and unexpected losses. For nearly two straight years, I poured myself into supporting my husband and children through the challenges they faced. Somewhere along the way… I unintentionally neglected myself. During that long stretch, I got what I thought was COVID. I experienced neck and back pain like never before. I began having what I assumed...

Happy February. 🩷 I want to start this month with a reminder I wish someone had gently spoken over me years ago: You are loved beyond what you do. For a long time in my early walk with Christ, I struggled to truly understand the love of God. I remember walking up to the altar Sunday after Sunday, “repenting” for all the ways I thought I had fallen short—convinced that I had somehow disappointed God or risked Him loving me less. If I missed my Bible reading? A strike. If I rushed through...
