Hey there, Mama
Since coming into a deeper walk with Christ, one of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is the importance of prayer—and how praying God’s Word changes everything.
Back in 2017, I graduated from a Bible school through my church called Sonship School of the First Born. One of the skills I learned and sharpened, was the ability to write prayers according to God's word. This is important becuase the only prayers God answers are His own.
That doesn’t mean God ignores our hearts. It means His promises, His character, and His Word should be the foundation of our prayers. When we pray according to what He has already spoken, we are aligning ourselves with His will.
One of the most practical ways I learned to do this was by finding scriptures that spoke to the concerns I had and writing prayers based directly on those scriptures. In doing so, I was essentially putting God in remembrance of His Word; Putting Him in remembrance of what He has said about me as a mom, what He has said about me as a wife, and most importantly, what He has said about me as His daughter.
And Mama, there is power in that.
Devotion: Learning to Pray
“So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…’”
— Matthew 6:9 (NIV)
Scripture encourages us to pray morning, evening, and night. But have you ever wondered exactly how to do that?
Jesus’ own disciples asked the same question:
“Lord, teach us to pray.”
And Jesus gave them a template, a structure that we can still follow today.
As moms juggling many responsibilities, having a simple framework can make prayer feel accessible instead of overwhelming.
Here is a simple pattern Jesus modeled:
- Acknowledge your Heavenly Father
Start by recognizing who you are speaking to. He is your Father who loves you.
- Give Him thanks
Gratitude shifts our hearts and reminds us of His goodness.
- Ask for His will
This is where scripture becomes powerful. Find verses that align with your situation and pray them back to God.
- Present your requests
Bring your needs, concerns, and desires honestly before Him.
- Repent when needed
Ask for forgiveness for anything that may have separated your heart from Him.
- Forgive others
Release offenses so your heart stays free.
- Ask for His help
Invite Him to strengthen you and guide you to follow His will.
- End with gratitude and faith
Thank Him again and seal your prayer in the name of Jesus.
Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s simply a conversation with the One who already knows your heart.
Take a Moment to Reflect
Take a moment to reflect:
- Do I approach prayer as a burden or as a relationship?
- What area of my life right now needs a scripture-backed prayer?
- How might my prayer life change if I began praying God’s Word back to Him?
Even short prayers rooted in scripture carry power.
Pray: Father, I thank you for the access I have to speak to you through prayer. Lord, teach me to pray according to word. In Jesus name. Amen.

Mom Tips: Making Prayer Part of Your Day
- Start small. Even a few scripture-based prayers in the morning can set the tone for the day.
- Write your prayers down. Journaling helps you stay focused and builds faith as you see God answer.
- Pray throughout the day. Quick prayers in the car, kitchen, or school pickup line matter.
- Teach your children to pray. Let them see you depend on God openly.
Faith-Filled Affirmation For the Week
"I am a woman of prayer. I speak God’s Word with faith, and I trust that He hears and answers according to His perfect will."
Closing Encouragement
Mama, prayer isn’t about having the perfect words—it’s about having an open heart to see his word at work in your life.
God is not waiting for eloquent speeches. He is inviting you into daily conversation with Him. And when we pray His Word, we stand on promises that never fail.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep leaning on Him.
With love and grace,
Karen
