The Gift of Refreshing

Hey there, Mama,

Phew! We made it through MayCember!

I don't know about you, but May was busy. Between graduations, birthdays, end-of-school activities, celebrations, and all the new beginnings, my calendar—and honestly, my mind—felt completely full.

And while every one of those moments was a blessing, I found myself feeling overwhelmed and struggling to find room to breathe.

Maybe you can relate.

Sometimes the very things we've prayed for become the things that fill every available space in our lives. But praise God for the gift of refreshing. Praise God for moments in His presence that allow us to be renewed, restored, and fully rested.

As I transition into a new month, I'm reminded of the importance of intentionally slowing down long enough to thank the Gift Giver—not just enjoy the gifts. To remember the One who blesses us. The One who sustains us. The One who refreshes our souls when life becomes full.

Devotion: Times of Refreshing

Scripture:

"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,"
Acts 3:19 (NKJV)

There are moments in life when we can become so busy enjoying the blessings that we unintentionally lose sight of the Blesser.

As moms, we can become consumed with managing schedules, celebrating milestones, serving our families, and even doing the work of ministry. We can become so focused on what we're doing for God that we forget to spend time simply being with Him.

I've learned that busyness isn't always a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes busyness is the result of answered prayers. The challenge comes when the blessings begin taking up the space that belongs to God.

The beautiful thing about our Heavenly Father is that He is rich in mercy. When He reveals areas where we've become distracted, He doesn't condemn us. He invites us back.

Acts 3 tells us that when we repent—when we turn our attention back toward Him—times of refreshing come from the presence of the Lord.

Not from a vacation.

Not from a nap.

Not from crossing everything off the to-do list.

Those things can certainly help, but true refreshing comes from His presence.

When we intentionally make room for God, He refreshes our hearts, renews our minds, and strengthens us through His grace.

Mama, if you've felt weary, distracted, overwhelmed, or spiritually dry, perhaps God is simply inviting you back into His presence.

Not because He's angry. But because He loves you. And He knows exactly what your soul needs.

Take a Moment to Reflect

Take a moment to reflect:

  • Have I been so focused on the blessings that I've neglected time with the Blesser?
  • What distractions have been competing for my attention lately?
  • Where do I need God's refreshing in this season?
  • What would it look like to intentionally create space for His presence this week?

Pray: Father, thank you for your mercy. I repent of all the moments I allowed myself to get distracted and spend less time with you. Lord, as I take this moment in your presence, I ask you to refresh me like only you know how to do.

MayCember: When the Busyness of December Meets May

If May left you feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed, and wondering how you were supposed to be in multiple places at once, you're not alone.

In my latest blog, I share practical encouragement for navigating busy seasons while protecting your peace and avoiding burnout.

Mom Tips: Creating Space for Refreshing

  1. Start your day with five minutes of gratitude before reaching for your phone.
  2. Schedule quiet moments with God on your calendar the same way you schedule appointments.
  3. Take a short walk and use the time to pray and reflect.
  4. Give yourself permission to pause between seasons instead of rushing into the next thing.
  5. Remember that your worth is not measured by your productivity.

Faith-Filled Affirmation For the Week

"I make room for God's presence in my life. He refreshes my soul, renews my strength, and carries me through every season with His grace."

Closing Encouragement

Mama, if May felt overwhelming, let this be your reminder that God never intended for you to carry life in your own strength. The same God who blessed you is also the God who refreshes you.

As we step into this new month, my prayer is that you would intentionally create space to sit in His presence, receive His grace, and allow Him to restore what busyness has drained.

May this be a season of refreshing.

May this be a season of renewal.

And may you never forget that the greatest gift is not what God gives us—but God Himself.

With love and encouragement,
Karen 🤎

Hey there, Mama 🩷 Happy Mother’s Day! Today is your day. And while I pray you are showered with love, appreciation, hugs, flowers, cards, text messages, naps, laughter, and maybe even a hot meal you didn’t have to cook… I want you to remember something important: The most important part of today is that you give yourself permission to celebrate YOU. Not just as “mom.” But as the woman God handcrafted with intention. Mama, you were customized by God to be the perfect mother for the children in...

Hey there, Mama 🤎 I can distinctly remember when I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher… or a writer (an author, but I didn't use that word. Lol!) and even an actress. When I look back, God has been so good. I was blessed to be a teacher for about a decade and spent 17 years in education overall, and I truly loved it. But there were other things God placed on my heart too… writing, acting, creating. I’ve had glimpses of those dreams: singing in the choir, writing skits for...

Hey there, Mama 🤎 I can remember my early years of motherhood so clearly. I was a young mom, working, a fairly new wife, and trying to be as active in church as possible. I wanted to do it all. Be everything. Show up everywhere. And if I’m honest, I still have moments now where I can feel myself drifting back into that same mindset. But back then, I didn’t realize I was burning myself out. I also didn’t understand that God’s love was not predicated on my output… not on how much I served, how...
