Walking on Water (Or Sinking. Depends on the Day. 🫠)

Hey there, Mama,

As a mama, have you ever began dreaming again and so much excitement fills your heart, there's nothing no one could tell you to disbelieve that God would bring that dream and vision to past?

Recently, I've had huge moments of excitement about the visions, promises, and blessings God has shown me for my life. It's like nobody can tell me anything. I'm walking in it, I believe it, and I feel unstoppable!

Then there are moments I feel afraid. About those same exact things.

I guess when you're walking by faith toward the things, executing God's instructions, sometimes the tough gets going right around the time the going gets tough. I recently cried out to God to help me in these moments, because it's like some days I'm walking on water and other days I'm sinking.

(Or maybe it's just perimenopause. That might be a conversation for another day 🤔🤪🤔)

Devotion: With Jesus, We Only Begin to Sink

Scripture

"But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”

Have you read the story? When Jesus tells the disciples to get in the boat and go ahead of Him? A storm rolls in. The waves are working against them. And then, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the storm, Jesus comes walking toward them on the water.

Peter, says: "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." And Jesus says one word: "Come."

So Peter gets out of the boat. He does it! He walks on water, for a few steps at least. His eyes are locked on Jesus. But then Scripture says he "saw the wind" (Matthew 14:30) and started to sink. Now the wind had been blowing the whole time, so what changed? Peter didn't sink because the storm got worse. He sank because he shifted his focus from the One who called him out of the boat to the problem around him.

I think that's exactly what happens to us in those exciting-promise-turned-terrifying-reality moments. God shows us something big for our lives, and we get out of the boat in faith, full of confidence. And then somewhere in the middle of actually walking it out, we notice the wind. We notice how uncertain it all feels. We notice how far we still have to go. And the fear creeps in, not because God moved, but because we looked away from Him. The circumstances and roadblocks we would face were already there the moment God told us to step out. That same focused faith that helped us step out of the boat, will help us walk across the sea. And even when we begin to sink, Jesus will be there to lift us back up.

When Peter started to sink, Jesus didn't let him drown. Scripture says Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him. He didn't wait for Peter to fix his faith first. He caught him in the sinking.

Whatever promise you're walking toward right now, the one that felt so exciting and now feels a little terrifying — He's not going to let you drown. He will immediately come to your rescue. Be not afraid to cry out to Him.

Take a Moment to Reflect

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What's a promise or vision God has shown you that felt exciting at first but now feels intimidating up close?
  • When you notice fear creeping in, is it because something actually changed — or because you started looking at the wind instead of at Jesus?
  • Where do you need to cry out "Lord, save me" today, trusting He'll reach out immediately, not eventually?

Pray: Father, sometimes I feel like I'm walking on water and other times I feel like I'm sinking. Help me to keep my faith focused on Jesus, and know that even in the sinking, I can cry out for you to save me, and trust that you will do just that. In your name I pray. Amen.

Journaling and Affirmations: Simple Coping Strategies That Help Working Moms Heal

Journaling not only helps us to remember the promises of God, but can be beneficial to our overall mental health. In this blog, I break down the psychology behind why writing and repeating truth helps rewire limiting beliefs and support healing.

Mom Tips: Some ways to keep your eyes fixed when the wind picks up:

  • Name the promise out loud, daily. Fear grows in silence. Speak the thing God showed you, even if your voice shakes a little.
  • Remember by Keeping a "walked on water" list. Write down moments — even small ones — where you took a step of faith and it held. Read it back when you're sinking.
  • Cry out early, not last. You don't have to wait until you're fully underwater to ask for help. Peter cried out while sinking, not after.

Faith-Filled Affirmation For the Week

"I don't have to have it all figured out to keep walking. When I feel myself sinking, I will cry out and I trust He will reach for me immediately."

Closing Encouragement

There will be days we feel like we're walking on water, and some days it will feel like we're sinking. No matter what day you're experiencing in this moment, remember that you can trust in Jesus to come to your rescue. And know this, just because you have moments that you may begin to sink, does not cancel out the faith you had to step onto the water in the first place.

The key to a consistent walk, is keeping your eyes on HIM, and crying out to HIM when you feel distracted by the wind.

With love and encouragement,

Hey there, Mama 🤎 I've probably shared before that I serve in different capacities in and outside of church, and in most of those spaces, I'm in a leadership role. Add to that the fact that I'm a counselor by profession, and like many of us, I pour out a lot. I don't say that to be boastful. I say it to draw a picture for what I'm about to share. I love serving in every capacity I'm in. Those communities matter to me. But in this season as a business owner, my heart has been going out to God...

Hey there, Mama, In the previous newsletter, I shared with you about walking on water. Since then, God has kept ministering to my heart on this. Through prayer with a sister and friend of mine, and honestly, through what He's been walking me through personally, I keep coming back to the same realization: walking on water isn't just about the faith it takes to step onto something that can't hold you. It's about the faith it takes to leave something behind. The people you're used to being...

Hey there, Mama, We're a few weeks into the school year now, and if your house is anything like mine, the frantic scramble of those first days has settled into... something. LOL! I'm on my last round of seeing a child through high school, and you'd think I'd be a pro after raising my older two — but for some reason, I feel exhausted. And honestly, it's not even that chaotic. My daughter is pretty independent. When she's done getting ready, she knocks on my bedroom door to let me know she's...
